Why we are in Balboa
We started playing with the idea to start a Bed & breakfast pretty soon after we arrived in Panama from Costa Rica, over 3 years ago.
Initially we selected the Clayton area for its very green surroundings. But, less than ideal public transportation and lack of local services (stores, restaurants, etc.) made us look closer to the city center. We loved Cerro Ancón but again, transport was an issue: only taxis go up that hill.
Then we found our current location and where sold immediately.
Almost at the end of a quiet street yet only 2 blocks away main services, in the upscale and safe Canal Authority neighborhood, we found the ideal spot.
As you can see on the map, we're close to the city and its attractings such as the Casco Viejo, Amador Causeway and banking center.
Getting in and out of the city is a breeze. To go to the 'interior', the Pacific beaches, just cross the Bridge of the Americas.
If you want to visit nearby national parks, take the train to the Caribbean coast, visit Fort Lorenzo or Portobelo, no need to get into downtown.
Panama's biggest mall is also a 3 minute taxi ride away and includes movie theaters (with English subtitles).
Need to catch a domestic flight? We'll get you at the airport in less than 5 minutes.
Like to go jogging in the morning? The neighborhood is green and safe and a 10 minute run to the Amador Causeway where you'll see the huge container ships entering the Panama Canal!
Check out the list of attractions on our blog and 'todo's on the right to see how you can have a very rewarding and enjoyable time while staying at the Balboa Inn.
