Balboa Inn policies - terms - conditions - the fine print !

The nights you have reserved are guaranteed exclusively for you and we do not overbook like large hotels. Due to our intimate size, cancellations affect us greatly! So please read carefully!

A valid credit card is required to guarantee your reservation. European clients may pay by bank transfer in advance to our account in The Netherlands (see PDF).You can choose to enter your credit card details on a secure server or you can send them to us by fax (507-314-1520). We will charge the first two nights of each stay you book on your card as a deposit plus any fees for requested transportation services. Our rates include a full American breakfast and all applicable taxes.

The charge on your statement will be by ILISA International, a Florida, USA company that handles the deposits by credit card. Please pay attention to this and if a friend, family member or partner's credit card was provided, please let them know about this as well.

After this charge, credit cards will only be debited if one or more of the conditions below occur:

Cancellation fees
  • cancellationCancellations received in writing (e-mail, confirmed by us) more than 30 days prior to your arrival: only one night will be charged.

  • Cancellations received between 15 and 30 days prior to arrival: 50% of your stay (with 2- night minimum) will be charged. Transportation fees will be refunded.

  • Cancellations received less than 15 days or no-shows: full stay will
    be charged. (please understand, one room is 11% of our inn's
    capacity and we turn people away all the time)
Advanced booking

Advance booking rates - if listed - require full pre-payment, are non-refundable, and non-cancellable. Once booked, the room rate and taxes for your entire stay will be charged to the credit card used to confirm the booking.
Check-in and check-out

Check-in is from 3 PM to 7 PM. If you require a late arrival, our night porter, not the owners will accommodate you to your room. Normal checkout is 11 AM. If you want to arrive early to leave baggage with us, no problem. We can safely store your baggage with us for few hours (or days) for later pickup.

There are no refunds for an early check-out or delayed arrival (due to flight delays, missed flights, etc.).. The nights you have reserved are guaranteed exclusively for you. However, should we be able to rebook your nights, we will be pleased to refund accordingly.

Tour packages

Tour packages booked with your room will be guaranteed with your credit card as well and normally have to be paid in advance. Cancellation policies of these 3rd party provider may differ but generally, cancellations made at least 15 days prior to arrival will avoid any charges. Please inquire to be sure.
Pet policy

sleeping kittenThe Balboa Inn is a pet-friendly B&B but please cooperate to keep it that way. Please don't let your pet sleep on the bed. Needless to say we only accept well-behaved pets. If your pet creates any problems that affect the well-being of other guests, we reserve the right to ask you to leave. We reserve the right to deny entry to pets we feel will cause incompliance with our pet policy. If unsure, please inquire. To cover extra cleaning expenses, we do charge a USD 10 a day, per room, pet cleaning fee with a maximum of USD 40 per week.

Pets should not be left alone in a room unless they are kept in a carrier. Any pet-related damages will result in extra charges.

Non-smoking policy

non-smoking policyThe majority of guest requests favor a non-smoking hotel environment. The only way to provide this experience is to not allow smoking anywhere within the building. This includes guest rooms, hallways and bathrooms.

Anyone found smoking in a guest room will be politely asked to stop. They will also be charged to clean the room for subsequent guests with a minimum charge of $ 40 plus all additional costs of accommodation and transport in the case we have to accommodate the subsequent guest elsewhere.

Our breakfast terrace is also non-smoking but our 2nd terrace on the side of the building is our designated smoking area outside the building to accommodate the needs of guests who smoke.

Our surveys have shown that nine out of ten people thought a completely non smoking hotel would be cleaner, fresher and a better looked after environment. In addition over 90% of nonsmokers told us that they would choose an entirely non-smoking hotel over one that offered smoking rooms.

Another interesting result was that over two thirds of smokers said that they would not be put off a hotel just because it did not offer them a smoking room, and almost half of smokers revealed that they would not smoke in their room anyway.

THEREFORE, our non-smoking policy will be strictly enforced to maintain our reputation as a non-smoking B&B.


Payment of your remaining balance is required at the beginning of your stay. We accept Mastercard and VISA and give a 3% discount for cash payment. Personal checks cannot be accepted except those from Panamanian banks. For our European clients, bank transfer to or RABO bank account is an option.

Normally, you should be paying the amount on your booking confirmation. In some cases there may be a discount The Balboa Inn staff has agreed with in writing (including e-mail) or, you may show up with more people for a room than those for which you made your reservation. In such cases, you will be charged according to our published rates.

A few more things

Use of candles in rooms are not allowed, due to insurance policy. Free parking is available in the street in front of our premises and is safe.

Unfortunately, the Balboa Inn rooms are not wheelchair accessible.

So, by booking with The Balboa Inn, you acknowledge that you fully understand and accept the terms of the above policy.
